Spanish tile is beautiful and unforgiving. Every piece is a slightly different shade, and the layout has to account for that — or the wall reads as a mistake. This Seattle bath was a chance to show what careful, hand-laid tile actually looks like when it's done right.
We blended the colors by hand as we set each piece, so the variation reads as intentional, not accidental. That's the difference between a tile wall and a tile job.
The shampoo niche is set where you actually reach — not where a pattern said it should go. Layout decisions that serve the person in the shower are the ones nobody has to think about, which is exactly the point.
The kind of work that only looks effortless after it's done. Behind it: a waterproof membrane, a flat substrate, and the patience to set each piece once.
